NY Times Endorses Timothy Wu For Lt. Governor In The Primary

After The New York Times editorial board announced earlier this week that it will not endorse a candidate in the Democratic Primary for New York Governor between incumbent Andrew Cuomo and challenger Zephyr Teachout, it has now backed the primary election effort of Lt. Governor candidate, Tim Wu.

Mr. Duffy can now go back to sitting on his Duff. If Wu wins , NYS will have an actual breathing, thinking human being in that position.

Andrew Cuomo in 2010 and spent the last four years promoting the governor’s agenda around the state. On Sept. 9, Democratic primary voters can choose between Governor Cuomo’s new choice for lieutenant governor, Kathy Hochul, a former congresswoman, and Timothy Wu, a law professor at Columbia University who is running as an independent-minded Democrat.

Mr. Wu, a political newcomer, offers a fresh perspective and a new voice to counter Albany’s entrenched players. Ms. Hochul does not, and she has a deeply troubling record on health reform, gun control and environmental deregulation. For these reasons, we recommend Mr. Wu in the Democratic primary.

In an editorial on Wednesday, we did not endorse Zephyr Teachout for governor in the Democratic primary, citing her lack of experience. Mr. Wu, who is her running mate, also lacks political experience, but he is seeking a very different job, with far less responsibility for running a big and diverse state.

Mr. Wu recognizes this difference, and he says he wants to use the lieutenant governor’s job as a pulpit, to become the state’s de facto public advocate, particularly in support of consumer issues, Internet access and economic development zones.

Mr. Cuomo chose Ms. Hochul this spring to balance his ticket with a conservative woman from upstate. Ms. Hochul now supports his gun control bill, but when she ran unsuccessfully for re-election to Congress in 2012, her campaign featured the endorsement from the National Rifle Association. The N.R.A. said at the time that she had “a proven record of defending the Second Amendment.”

She also boasted repeatedly that she had voted many times against “Obamacare.” She strongly opposed allowing undocumented immigrants to

3. Some DEM primary voters vote strictly ideology.

Cuomo straddles the traditional ideological lines going "left" on some things... "right" on others and mostly just blowing smoke and cutting sleazy backroom deals.

The last part... as well as things like abuse of power, corruption and growing income disparity under Quid Pro.... doesn't concern "liberals" w. blinders on.

Kochul seems to be basically a wing-nut. So... if they read she's NRA or something... they'll vote agin' her.

A lot of folks don't even realize they are separate votes. ( Including me, until recently.)

4. I am worried there is not enough news coverage by the networks on this race.

5. Not enough? There isn't ANY.

And truly... I'm not surprised. Can you just see Diane Sawyer doing a feature on Teachout... or even on the Moreland Commission? Preposterous.

The networks make people stupid and then they blame the stupidity of their viewership for the low-info quality of their presentations.

I can't speak for local tv news... I don't watch it. ( I CAN'T watch it.) My guess is all this political/governmental stuff is pretty much written out in favor of fires, weather, street crime , celebrity nonsense and the like.

There's Channel One on cable. That has a bit of serious NY news but not enough.

Times has pretty good coverage of the race and my local Riverdale Press is all over Klein v. Koppell.

Don't know about the tabloids. Won't buy 'em. Don't trust 'em. But occasionally they have better political stuff online than is available anywhere else.

6. And if she gets a huge amount of the vote without coverage there needs to be a come to Jesus
