Anti-fracking ex-mayor in bar fight with pro-fracking blogger

ALBANY—Former Binghamton mayor Matt Ryan, a fracking opponent, could face harassment charges after getting into a bar fight with a prominent pro-fracking advocate, State Police said.

Ryan, who helped Binghamton pass a fracking ban, shoved Victor Furman, a frequent critic of anti-fracking activists, during an argument inside Davy's Last Chance Saloon in Chenango Forks, on August 20, State Police Sgt. Daniel Guilfoyle said. Chenango Forks is about 12 miles north of Binghamton.

In an interview Thursday, Furman said Ryan approached him inside the bar and two began a civil political discussion about a number of issues, including fracking. The discussion eventually turned heated, Furman said.
