Report: N.Y. short on primary care physicians

Laura Nahmias

ALBANY—Primary care physicians are aging out of the workforce, resulting in a doctor shortage that could imperil the state's plans to expand preventive care, a report by the Healthcare Association of New York State concludes.

Last year, hospitals outside New York City hired 888 physicians, but 2,104 retired, according to the report.
