(26,877 posts)Why was he way down in Schodack? That's well south of Albany (Saratoga's about 40 min north of Albany).
I know someone who met him @ the track years ago. Said he was nice.

(205,320 posts)I once met him at the track. When my father was living, we'd go to the track and sit in the mayor's box which are the choice seats and we sometimes saw celebrities. One time, David Cassidy was there, was sitting with others in the NYRA box, and my mother recognized him and chatted him up. She was the one who introduced me, LOL.
And he was very nice, think he was tickled to be recognized, since his "Partridge Family" days were long over, but I thought he'd since established a second career in Las Vegas. Poor guy, I had the impression that he was a little snockered the day I met him, but I thought he'd made a comeback.

(205,320 posts)I grew up in Saratoga, consider it my home town. And August has always been special, people come from all over to spend the racing season there, lots of rich people and celebrities and no doubt some nefarious people, too. When we were kids, my mother trusted me, but she forbid my little brother from leaving the block during the month of August.

(205,320 posts)Saratoga Springs has been a tourist draw for generations. A century ago, people flocked to Saratoga to take advantage of the healing waters (mineral springs) there. There are these huge buildings on the outskirts of town known as "the baths," Washington, Lincoln and Roosevelt. People came to soak in the waters. I think only the Roosevelt is still used for "the baths," know the Lincoln Baths is now a dance museum.

(205,320 posts)Think I told you that I lived in Ticonderoga, up in Essex County, from the ages of six thru nine. That was absolutely gorgeous and the window of my room looked straight down Lake George. There's also a whole lot of history here. Ticonderoga has the famous Revolutionary War fort and the Battle of Saratoga was "the turning point of the Revolution."
Rogers Rock, famous Revolutionary War landmark, which I could see from my house...

(205,320 posts)And when the track lets out for the day (it's "dark" - means closed - on Tuesdays), traffic in Saratoga comes to a dead stop.

(71,265 posts)But the area makes money off of tourists and that is a good thing. Cuomo is trying to get more tourism for Upstate NY and I think it is great.

(205,320 posts)The first time I went overseas (Ireland when I was 16, also because of riding camp), my mother was determined that they'd drive me to the airport, but my father just wouldn't do it. My grandmother ended up driving me to NJ and my uncle, who worked in New York, drove me...
