Rochester's newly installed Mayor James Smith in quarantine after testing positive for COVID
Rochester Mayor James Smith, who officially took office Thursday, is in quarantine after testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Smith has been sequestered and working from his apartment in the Park Avenue neighborhood since testing on Thanksgiving Day.
He is vaccinated and just recently received his booster shot.
"My doctor believes very strongly that my outcome is largely due in fact to having been vaccinated, and I am grateful for that," Smith said in an interview, speaking via Zoom while lamenting the lagging vaccination rates locally. "It's important that everyone realize this is a real thing, and it's serious."
