HIGHLAND, N.Y. -- More than 100 headstones in an Ulster County cemetery have been destroyed or damaged, and the local town supervisor is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest of the vandals.
Highland Town Supervisor Paul Hansut tells the Middletown Times Herald-Record (http://bit.ly/17vFas9 ) that the issue is personal for him because his brother-in-law's gravestone was one of those damaged late Tuesday night or early Wednesday.
Hansut says the cost of the damage at Highland Cemetery is estimated at between $30,000 and $40,000.
Town Police Lt. James Janso says he believes several people were involved in the desecration.
