NYC Council Preps Vote On Paid Sick Leave Bill

The City Council is set to vote tomorrow on a bill requiring small businesses to give paid sick days to workers.

If the measure passes, companies with 20 or more employees would have to provide five days of paid sick leave by April of next year.

By late 2015, the measure would expand to include businesses with 15 or more employees
Workers at smaller businesses will also be able to take unpaid sick leave without fear of retribution.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has threatened to veto the bill, but City Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn says the Council has enough votes to override a veto.
