Moreland Commission makes recommendations, Changes will be up to the Governor and Legislature
By DAN O'REGAN
The Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption released its long awaited preliminary report to Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday night detailing their findings and recommendations to curb corruption in state government, political campaigns and elections.
The Commission, charged by Cuomo in July with probing systemic public corruption in state government, developed its recommendations after numerous investigations, many of which are ongoing. The Commission reviewed millions of documents, issued subpoenas, interviewed dozens of witnesses, and held open hearings with testimony from the public, law enforcement professionals and good government representatives.
The preliminary report is broken down into four key areas that the Commission has focused on so far in its investigation: campaign finance, enforcement at the Board of Elections, the adequacy of current laws for effectively prosecuting corruption and outside income of legislators and legislative discretionary funding.
Cuomo said he was looking forward to reviewing the findings.
