NY health exchange hits more than 100,000 enrolled

Joseph Spector

New York’s health exchange has enrolled 100,881 people, up 32 percent in less than two weeks, the state Health Department said today.

New York has had increasing success enrolling people into its federally mandated health exchange after a rocky launch Oct. 1. Although the federal site has been mired in troubles, New York has reported better results.

The state said that 314,146 New Yorkers had completed their applications and 100,881 people have enrolled for coverage starting on Jan. The deadline to enroll for Jan. 1 health coverage is Dec. 23.

The state plans to enroll 1.1 million uninsured New Yorkers by the end of 2016. There was no immediate statistics from the state on how many enrolled in Medicaid or in a private insurance plan.

That's the important issue. As an Upstater(Montgomery and Fulton Co resident) we need vastly more private plans "purchased" to actually fund the pool in the long term.
As a past Contract Negotiator for the Union at MCA/Universal in Gloversville, NY, I know the costs of the majority of the new plans being Medicaid if that's the case because we studied costs acrross the state for comparison purposes.

It concerns me the NY "enrollment" numbers are this vague.
