Pizzagate? de Blasio eats slice with knife and fork

AP

NEW YORK -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is dealing with a scandal of his own: pizzagate.

While eating lunch at a Staten Island pizza joint Friday, the mayor used a knife and fork to eat his slice.

That's a no-no for most New Yorkers, who are very opinionated when it comes to pizza. Most advocate using their hands to hold the slice, folding it over and then taking a bite.

Photos of de Blasio using the knife and fork were posted to Twitter and prompted mock outrage on several blogs and social media websites

I lost my front teeth in a car accident and I hate having that partial. Oh well.

They think pizza crust should have the consistency and taste of cardboard.

Others might not be so nice as to call mere heresy.

I grew up with Detroit pizza -- No! Not Dominoes! That's East Lansing anyway. The best was in Hamtramck, which is an independent Polish settled city wholly within the Detroit borders. Shield's bar in Hamtramck had the absolute best. It was deep dish, but not like Chicago. Thick crust, but not like Chicago. Tomato sauce on the bottom, like traditional pizza and unlike Chicago. Toppings per usual. Rectangular pieces on rectangular pizza. If you're fast, you may get a corner piece.

It was a Detroit thing. It was wonderful. With double cheese... Wow! With anchovies... Heaven.

Best regards.

that the Europeans actually eat pizza with a fork and knife.

The heathens!!!!

It's actually much cleaner that way. People who have a problem with it should get a life.

Oh and they also had this version with ham and pineapple on it. Can you imagine? Blasphemy!

But she's from Illinois, where they're used to pizza as thick as lasagna.
