NTSB issues preliminary report on fatal Metro-North crash

WASHINGTON – The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its preliminary report on the Metro-North derailment in the Bronx on December 1 that killed four people and injured 59.

The report confirms the train was traveling at 82 mph in a 30 mph zone. Despite that finding and others, NTSB spokesman Keith Holloway said no conclusions have been reached as to the cause of the accident.

There were, however, no anomalies pertaining to the signal system, train brakes and other mechanical equipment.
