Independent Senate Dems Formally Sign On To DREAM Act Bill

BY KEN LOVETT

The four-members of the breakaway Independent Democratic Conference formally signed on to Sen. Jose Peralta’s bill to create a state DREAM Act.

Twenty five members are now signed on to the bill, which needs 32 votes to pass.

The Daily News reported the IDC was set to give support to the bill yesterday.

In signing on to the bill, IDC Leader Jeffrey Klein, the Bronx Democrat who is also Senate co-leader, made no mention of sponsor Peralta, the Queens Democrat who is a member of the mainstream Democratic conference. Instead, he praised Assembly sponsor Francisco Moya, the Queens Dem who cited the IDC support in a new release Tuesday.
