Q-poll: New Yorkers are totally OK with weed

Jordan Carleo-Evangelist

A new Quinnipiac University poll out this morning found a majority of New Yorkers favor legalizing small amounts of marijuana for recreational use and overwhelmingly support — by an 88-9 percent margin — the legalization of medical marijuana.

Support for recreational use of the drug was more modest but still a comfortable majority at 57-39 percent. Men tend tend to favor recreational use more than women, the young more than the old and Democrats and independents more than Republicans.

Most men admit having smoked marijuana (55-42) while most women deny it (58-39). Overall, most of the 1,488 New Yorkers polled between Feb. 6 and Feb. 10 denied ever having indulged (51-46).

The survey carries a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percent.
