Senate bill would restore school funds used to close budget gap

By Richard Moody

The Senate Education Committee has moved a bill to the floor of the Senate that would restore lost funding to school districts through the Gap Elimination Adjustment.

The bill approved by the committee, S.5452-a, would create a timeline for the state to pay back education funding used by the state in past years to close a multi-billion dollar deficit. Sen. John Flanagan, the sponsor of the bill, is looking for full restoration of funds within a three-year period.
