Garrick Utley, a well-known veteran newscaster who ran SUNYs Levin Institute and most recently worked as a professor at SUNY Oswego, has died of cancer.
Utleys career spanned the decades from the Vietnam war to serving as a moderator on Meet the Press. Reporting from 75 countries, he had worked for NBC, ABC and CNN.
Heres a statement from SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher:
On behalf of the entire SUNY community, I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Garrick Utley. Garrick was a valued member of the SUNY family, the founding president of the Levin Institute, and more recently a professor at SUNY Oswego. It was in these roles that he generously shared his time, talents, and wealth of knowledge from a highly distinguished career with SUNY students and faculty. He was a trusted colleague and advisor who taught me many things. I am honored to have worked with him. Our thoughts are with Garricks family, many friends, colleagues, and admirers.
