Mass transit task force recommends bus rapid transit system on new TZ Bridge

TARRYTOWN – The New NY Bridge Mass Transit Task Force on Friday recommended a new bus rapid transit system to be in place when the new Tappan Zee Bridge is open in 2018. The group also proposed West-of-Hudson Rail improvements and passenger service on the West Shore Line.

If all of the recommendations of the group are implemented, the new bus rapid transit system would increase transit ridership by over 10,000 people per day, cutting commuter travel times by 20 to 25 percent.

Short-term, five year, recommendations of the group include new bus rapid transit stations and vehicles, dedicated transit lines, traffic signal improvements, a new I-287/87 interchange 14X study, Interchange 10 reconstruction/South Nyack study, and West-of-Hudson rail improvements.
