Republicans sour on Dolan’s Dream Act compromise

Jimmy Vielkind

ALBANY—A proposal to include the Dream Act in the emerging state budget was rebuffed by Senate Republicans on Thursday, even after it was coupled with an education tax credit pushed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

In a statement, Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos and Brooklyn senator Marty Golden said “the two items should stand separately and be judged on their merits,” presumably after a budget is finalized and adopted by the end of the month.
