NYC Board of Elections set to destroy millions of paper voter records

The Board of Elections is lightening up.

Continuing its amble into the 21st Century, the agency is poised to shred millions of old voter registration cards, moving to an all-digital record-keeping system and clearing up thousands of feet of office space at its borough outposts.

"It's a mammoth undertaking," BOE Executive Director Michael Ryan said after the agency's weekly Tuesday meeting.

The so-called "buff cards" -- the piece of the form the BOE saves when a voter registers -- have been digitized.
