15,000 refuse to take Common Core test in New York

Pauline Liu

WASHINGTONVILLE — The number of students and families refusing to take Common Core tests was mushroomed Tuesday, according to one advocacy group.

At least 40 percent of school districts (272 districts) have received letters from parents asking to opt their kids out of the English tests that will be offered for three days in a row, said Jeanette Deutermann of Allies for Public Education.

She estimates that more than 15,000 students in grades 3-8 refused the test statewide.
