Mayor de Blasio optimistic on labor contracts in addressing Central Labor Council

Mayor de Blasio struck a hopeful tone Thursday night that negotiations with the city's 152 municipal labor unions are moving along smoothly, saying "the sooner the better" to reach settlements with them.

"By definition, 152 open contracts presents a complicated reality, but I think the good news is there is a spirit of cooperation," de Blasio said after speaking at the annual reception of the New York City Central Labor Council.

"I think they can expect fairness," he said, adding that the negotiations between the city and municipal unions, working under expired contracts, have taken a "very respectful tone."
