Nearly 1 million register for health care in NY, according to DOH

By KELLY FAY

With one day remaining before the enrollment deadline, more than 933,000 New Yorkers have signed up for coverage through the state's health insurance exchange, 70 percent of whom were previously uninsured, the Department of Health reports.

The website called NY State of Health — which allows New Yorkers to shop for insurance and determine what assistance they are entitled to — launched in October of last year, initially facing some bugs due to an unanticipated level of usage. According to the DOH, 55,000 calls to the NYSOH Customer Service Center were answered last week, indicating that interest remains high. Over one million calls have been answered since the premiere of the exchange.
