SPAM from Congressman George Holding 13th District (Teabagger)

I received my first/only ever email from this creepazoid's office today. I NEVER signed up to be on its mailing list nor any other list related to it. Of course there's an option to unsubscribe. I tried that and got:

You are not subscribed to the NEWSLETTER-113-NC13 list under the address
your message came from (xxxxxxx@mail.com).

No entry for your xxxxxx@mail.com address could be found on the
NEWSLETTER-113-NC13 list at LS1.HOUSE.GOV. Here are a number of possible
reasons why you might still be getting mail from the list:

1. You may not be subscribed to this specific list
(NEWSLETTER-113-NC13@LS1.HOUSE.GOV) but rather to an unrelated mailing
list with the same (or similar) name on another host. Please carefully
check the From and Sender lines of the messages you are getting to ensure
that the mail is actually coming from NEWSLETTER-113-NC13@LS1.HOUSE.GOV.
If this is not the case, you will have to contact the owners of the
correct list.

2. You could be subscribed under a different, but equivalent address. For
instance, your site might have a cluster of mail machines that go by the
names GOLD.EXAMPLE.COM, SILVER.EXAMPLE.COM and so forth. Depending on how
they are configured, you might have sent your original subscription
request while logged into the GOLD machine and you may be trying to sign
off from the SILVER machine, which LISTSERV would see as two unrelated
hosts. Or your ISP may have silently changed the return address on your
mail from, say, MAIL.ISP.COM to ISP.COM (or vice versa).

In this case, since the subscriber list for NEWSLETTER-113-NC13 is not
publicly searchable, the only thing you can do is to contact the list
owner with a list of possible addresses under which you might be
subscribed.

3. You might be subscribed under an equivalent yet different address -
for instance, one with explicit gatewaying, or an X.400 address with
different ordering of the various components, etc.

Again, since the subscriber list for NEWSLETTER-113-NC13 is not publicly
searchable, the only thing you can do is to contact the list owner with a
list of possible addresses under which you might be subscribed.

4. You could be subscribed to the list under another account, from which
mail is being automatically forwarded to your xxxxxx@mail.com account.
In that case you should be able to leave the list by resending the
signoff request from the account in question.

5. You could be subscribed to the list indirectly, via a "redistribution"
list. That is, one of the subscribers to the LISTSERV list is in fact a
mailing list, to which you are yourself subscribed (note that this
"redistribution" list is not necessarily managed by LISTSERV and, in
fact, such lists are often manually maintained, in which case the only
way to leave the list is to contact the person who maintains it). Since
you are not directly subscribed to NEWSLETTER-113-NC13, the only way for
you to stop getting the postings is to contact the administrators of the
"redistribution" list and ask them to sign you off.

You should be able to contact the NEWSLETTER-113-NC13 list owners by
simply replying to this message
.

VERY. INTERESTINK. how Teabaggers RAM their UNSOLICITED UNWANTED propaganda into people's email inboxes and then refuse to stop - and do so from "unknown" servers.

The turd whined about "excessive spending" and "big guvmint" and about wanting to CUT TAXES more and STOP ALL GOV'T REGULATION as typical ignorant teabaggers do. "Free markets" and all that shit. Typical Teabagger spew.

I marked it as spam. Because it IS. SPAM. I never asked for it and am unable to get off of their goddamned list.

confirms your email address as being valid and you end up on more lists. The best is to ignore unless you have your own mail server which gives you a couple more options.

If you are interested, work backward on the domain part of the email using a browser on an anonymous proxy site. See where you end up. You can also do some searching on the domain name or ip addresses that were included in the header of the original email. That may or may not give you more detail on the abuser but sometimes it's interesting to see if there's anything to learn about them. That's the simple way to see who it is, but it can also be forged info.
