GOP scrambles for health care votes as Jordan rips Kasich for Medicaid expansion

WASHINGTON — As House Republican leaders scramble to find the votes to approve their Obamacare replacement bill, Senate Democrats such as Sherrod Brown of Ohio have pledged to negotiate some revisions to the current law signed by President Barack Obama.

Despite strenuous lobbying efforts by President Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, a group of more than 20 House GOP conservatives such as Rep. Jim Jordan of Urbana are saying they are opposed to the House Republican leadership bill, which would replace the 2010 Affordable Care Act with a more free-market model. If more than 22 Republicans do not vote for the bill, it will not pass the House.

Appearing on MSNBC-TV today — one day before the House is scheduled to vote on the Ryan bill — Jordan said unless GOP leaders agree to "fundamental change, I do not see how they get to the 216 number that they need to pass it tomorrow night."

"We're still willing to talk," Jordan said. "We want to do what we told the American people we were going to do. We're willing to work with them. But you have to do something that's consistent with what we told the American people."
