Restaurants and bars host the Browns season opener, some not following COVID-19 guidelines

CLEVELAND, Ohio – With COVID-19 guidelines still in effect, Cleveland Browns fans gathered in bars and restaurants Sunday to watch the team play its first game of the season, as some restaurants followed guidelines for public safety during the pandemic, and others did not.

The Browns suffered a 38-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. But in Cleveland, fans still took a risk during the pandemic to support both their home team and local businesses that have struggled to survive the economic fallout.

The Barley House located on West 6th Street in Cleveland’s Warehouse District, hosted the most energized crowd. Fans wearing Brown’s gear streamed in about 20 minutes before game time.

However, bar patrons stood shoulder-to-shoulder, without consideration for social distancing. And masks were worn only by bartenders.
