Freedom Black Led Organizing Collaborative of Ohio joins Flip The Vote
The Freedom Black Led Organizing Collaborative (The Freedom BLOC) builds Black political power in Ohio and equips the Black community with capacity-building tools on civic education, civic engagement, campaign management, and leadership development that will ignite and foster greater electoral turnout in historic smaller urban centers in Northeast Ohio (Youngstown, Toledo and Akron) and surrounding rural areas.
Why Ohio?
Control of the Senate depends on Sherrod Brown, incumbent Democratic Senator from Ohio, defeating Trump-supported GOP challenger Bernie Moreno. Control of the House could also come down to Ohio, with three competitive seats that Democrats must defend in 2024. Three Ohio Supreme Court justices face reelection this year, and the result may determine whether the Court will protect measures voters passed in 2023, including the addition of abortion rights to the Ohio Constitution.

I stopped donating $ to individual Democratic candidates several years ago and instead send money to organizations vetted by Flip By The Vote. Currently Flip the Vote recommends donating to eight grassroots partner groups in must-win swing states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Within our target states, we recommend investing in carefully selected grassroots groups working year-round in their local communities to engage people who have been neglected by the political process. By building trusting relationships, these groups activate community members to get politically involved on issues they care about and to vote for Democratic candidates. Our partner groups also combat voter suppression by alerting their communities to any changes in registration and voting rules.
What these groups do is called relational organizing, which studies demonstrate is a highly effective way to turn out reluctant voters while building lasting electoral strength and leadership in communities that have been sidelined for too long.
