Supporters giddy over Trump's visit to Western Pennsylvania

(I think they're more insane than giddy)

Carol Heinecke bundled up in her blue parka, put on a red "Make America Great Again" hat and piled onto a shuttle bus along with a few family members and friends eager to welcome President Trump to Pittsburgh on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm thrilled to see President Trump in person," said Heinecke, 57 ...

She said Trump appeals to her for being a "strong conservative Christian" ...

Heinecke shrugged off questions about mounting concerns in the past week over whether Trump may be racist ...
"Frankly," chimed in her husband, John Heinecke, 60, "I met him (Trump) in person when I worked for IBM, and he's a gentleman in business, and that's all I would say about that."

The couple attended the arrival event with their 26-year-old son, Jimmy Heinecke, who said he "supports everything (Trump) stands for."
"He can be a little bit of a loose cannon sometimes, definitely, but I mean, I think we're all like that sometimes," Jimmy Heinecke said. "Locker talk, that sort of thing.
"It's just human nature. People say things that they wouldn't want to in another situation."

The White House invited about 150 Trump supporters — families with young children, deep-pocketed donors, veterans, college Young Republicans and local GOP officials — to attend Trump's arrival ...

Trump spent several minutes shaking hands, taking photos and signing autographs.

"He was friendly, very friendly. He shook my hand, he was just making comments, signing people's hats," said John Eizenhafer, 64 ...
"He sounds like he's for the working man."

I grew up in PA in the 1950's and 60's. It's sad to see how it has shifted to the right.

Ugh. Every time I see a comment like this it gives me a slight headache in the corner of my eye. I want to scream "On what planet would Trump be considered a strong Christian??" He is the absolute opposite of what I would consider a good Christian. There are people around here that I have known my entire life who seem completely blind to the scores of Trump's sins. If a Democrat had done 1/1000th of what Trump has done, they would break out the pitchforks and the tiki torches again!

... and cheated on all his wives.
He's a liar, and a racist.

He's probably broken all the ten commandments.

Not sure he qualifies as a "strong conservative christian".

... like that's gonna make any difference! Cheeto will never pull big crowds in Western PA and certainly not in 10-degree weather. Was Rick Saccone even there? He's hardly mentioned in this article, and he's the purported reason why Trump came here.

Here's some background info for outsiders:
TribLive is the website managed by the Tribune Review Media, which was owned by Richard Mellon Scaife the ultra right-winger who passed away about 5 years ago. It's the "Fox News" of Pennsylvania newspapers because of its out-of-balance right-wing slant.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is the other major newspaper in western PA, which is owned by the Block family and is somewhat moderate or at least fairly balanced in its politics. We don't really have a "liberal" newspaper in Pittsburgh so the Post Gazette will have to do. I've found that the columnists and editors are far more liberal than the owners are, and it became evident when the paper failed to endorse Hillary Clinton for President in 2016. (They didn't endorse Trump either.)

All that said, I'd take the word of the Post Gazette over the Tribune Review ANY DAY of the week. As a matter of fact I refuse to read the Trib and I don't even care what they print.

Just sayin'

... back in the 1960's,
the Pittsburgh Press seemed to be 'the newspaper'.

New Kensington also had, at that time, a fairly decent local paper,
'The Valley Dispatch',
which now is just a few stories on the Tribune website.

It was a great paper, but sadly it went the way of all afternoon dailies. No matter how good they were, they couldn't compete with the 6 o'clock TV news shows. All of those great newspapers (including the Press) went under long ago.

Several of the regional weekly papers were bought up by Scaife and added under the Tribune Review umbrella. They were "profitable" for awhile, but after Scaife died it became apparent that many were being supported by his inherited money. Most of them have either been closed or sold off in the last few years.

He snuck in and snuck out.

We have more population in Pittsburgh's Allegheny county than all the surrounding counties combined. And we voted strongly against dRumpf.
