I survived the Las Vegas shooting. Scott Perry has no idea what he's talking about

As a survivor of the October mass shooting in Las Vegas, I was infuriating to learn about U.S. Rep. Scott Perry's recent remarks on the tragedy.

Speaking to Tucker Carlson on Fox News last week, Perry claimed to have "credible evidence" that the Islamic terror group ISIS was behind the shooting; evidence that he is "not able to" share.

As one of the many Las Vegas survivors struggling with trauma right now, that was the last thing I needed to hear. Conspiracy theories distract from the real issue, which is that survivors of the Las Vegas shooting are receiving little, if any, assistance while politicians like Scott Perry use us as a political football.

By speaking of "rats," Perry is creating more divides and re-victimizing us. It's hard enough to accept the truth of what happened that evening without having my integrity and sanity questioned.

If Perry is attempting to shield the fact that domestic terrorists do more harm on our soil than foreign-born ones, then shame on him. Isn't the goal here to save lives and prevent the next American from having to go through the horror I experienced in Las Vegas?

<snip>

To make matters worse, the Las Vegas Victims Fund is under-funded and does not make all survivors of the shooting eligible for assistance. Only relatives of the deceased and those who were received medical care (by Oct. 10) with physical injuries can receive payments from the fund.

That leaves 98 percent-plus of us out, and we need help, too. Mental injury is real; we were hurt by a mentally injured human.

Right now, many of us are still unable to work and relying on community support. Few of us are getting lost wages and it's difficult to live on what you receive in crime victim compensation, if you're eligible for it in the first place. Remember, many survivors, like me, live outside of Las Vegas and Nevada.

Trying to figure out what you're eligible for and from where is a nightmare. On top of the fact that most donations ended up in local nonprofits that we do not have access to.

School kids chant "I know something you don't know". Not adults who actually know something.

Where do Republican find these despicable politicians?

He needs to be replaced by Shavonnia. She won't treat domestic terrorism like an amusing game.

In August 2016, Shavonnia Corbin-Johnson took time away from her busy job in Washington, D.C., to speak at the Rotary Club of York, telling her story of perseverance to the club’s members.

At the time, she was working at the White House’s Management and Budget Office under President Barack Obama, a significant leap from the foster home she lived in during her formative years.

Now, about a year removed from that job and a year into the Trump administration, Corbin-Johnson, 26, is mounting a Democratic bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Scott Perry, R-Dillsburg, a move she says is in part fueled by “the current situation the U.S. is facing” with the new chief executive.
