(7,699 posts)"When the charter school law was written, even if there was some consideration of the prospect of cyber charter schools, I don't believe there was ever the intention that charter schools would become profitable operations that in turn would finance other activities," said Ron Cowell, president of the Education Policy and Leadership Center and a former state representative from Wilkins. "Even if one assumes that [cyber charter schools are] more efficient, the intent of the law [was not to] provide for the use of taxpayer money to basically pay dividends to stockholders."
All of Pa's recently-written laws are designed to funnel taxpayer money into profits for someone. The legislature has no other purpose here.

(18,219 posts)They knew damned well that charter schools would be for-profit....and for-profit means that there are no restrictions on what happens to the money earned.
Get real, Mr. Cowell! If you did not intend this, you did a lousy job of keeping it from happening.

(4,226 posts)School districts are running out of money and these garbage cyber schools are using are tax dollars for billboards, tv ads, etc. They exist purely for profit.
