Vince Fumo wants to run for PA. State Democratic Committee. Key Dems try to block it.

Vince Fumo was an obvious "target rich" environment for corruption investigations. He oozed corruption out of every pore. As Attorney General, Corbett stayed away from him, because Fumo was too powerful. Like almost all of the real corruption prosecutions in PA during the last decade (kids for cash, cash for engineering jobs, charter school embezzlements, etc), it was the Feds who put Fumo in prison for many many felony convictions. The feds had to do all of the hard work even though most of those cases involved theft or misuse of state funds by state or county officials.

Meanwhile, AG Corbett at this time was trying to use his State Grand Jury to secretly force Twitter to unmask the identify of a person who was mocking him online. I swear I'm not making that up.

Anyway, Fumo now says he wants to run for Democratic State Committee. State law prohibits felons such as Fumo from running for most public offices, but it is untested whether that law applies to a political party committee. A number of key Dems are planning a legal challenge if Fumo tries to run. Just go away, Vince.

PS - the most irritating thing about Fumo's theft and mis-use of millions of state and non-profit resources was that Fumo didn't need the money. He was independently wealthy. His father left him multiple businesses, including his own bank. He had a huge mansion (where he still lives), a large beachhouse and an expansive farm. Meanwhile, he has been in court fights recently with his own kids and people who had thought Fumo was a best friend.
