State GOP struggles with court rejection of 2011 district lines



There is good reason for state GOP leaders to mull every option -- including postponing Pennsylvania's April 24 primary -- in the face of decade-old district lines. The old lines are an unexpected boon for Democrats and in a presidential year give the minority party a fighting chance to take back leadership in the General Assembly.

As the subject of legislative reapportionment may trigger narcolepsy, here is the state of play recast in movie terms:

Republicans are Kevin Bacon at the end of "Animal House" trying to face down a riot. "Remain calm. All is well!" his character says, before being flattened like a pancake.

Democrats are Jim Carrey in "Dumb & Dumber," after his dream girl says he has a one in a million chance of dating her.
