Today, I received an e-mail from campaigns@dailykos.com. It stated that "as of today, four of Pennsylvanias thirteen Republican members of Congress are running without a Democratic opponent." It details which districts at the link. The gist of the e-mail was to make sure that no Republican goes unchallenged in Pennsylvania. Filing deadline is Feb. 16th.

Since the Lehigh Valley was gerrymandered and broken apart, most Democrats are afraid to run against Charlie Dent (15th). He ran unopposed last time, and looks like will run essentially unopposed again. Listening to and reading various progressive media, I'm told over and over that in order to take back the House and the Senate, it's up to Democratic voters to vote in November. I'd love to vote for any Democratic candidate against Charlie Dent, but the Democratic Party can't come up with a single viable candidate to run against Dent. The Party leadership is letting down thousands of Democratic voters, not the other way around. I was hoping that long-time Democratic DA John Morganelli would run against Dent, but he wants to run for Attorney General.
Check in if your PA Republican Congressional rep. is running unopposed, or comments.

(28,394 posts)Tim Murphy (R) has a life-long grip on the district. There is a local dentist running against him. Some years there has not even been an opponent.

(1,561 posts)Dent can outspend him a thousand to one.

(42 posts)Unfortunately, Scott Perry will win even if someone steps forward to run against him. This area hasn't gone for the democrats since the 1970's I believe.

(6,819 posts)If we have to prioritize our money to defeat one Repub, Dent would not be the one. He's one of the few Repub moderates left, although he does vote the party line way too often.
When Callahan lost to Dent in a well-funded campaign, it scared off other challengers. However, that was a non-presidential year.

(18,219 posts)but it is next to impossible to elect a Democrat here. Lots of rural area, and they are ultra-conservative. Then there are some pockets of wealthy cities where they are doing well and they always will vote Republican.
But even if there was a chance for a Democrat, it is a matter of money. Kelly has access to large quantities of money, even if he had to use his own money (which he has). The Democratic areas of this district are rust belt with all the closed mills and low paying jobs that go with it. Money is probably the biggest problem an Democrat will have in this district.

(1,249 posts)I'm proud that, last year, my 10th managed to field a both a Dem and a fine I. candidate against my asshat, Tom Marino. He won, anyway, of course (the I. wasn't even close to being a spoiler). But at least we had choices.
Why did the Dem Party ever sign on to this gerrymandered state of affairs? Many rural Pennsylvanians got sold down the river, imo.

(12,319 posts)I got that e-mail from Kos, also. This lack of candidates is quite disconcerting.
