Ex-state treasurer Barbara Hafer charged with lying to feds about $500,000 in consulting fees
Former Pennsylvania Treasurer Barbara Hafer has been indicted on federal charges of lying about taking in more than $500,000 in consulting fees from a company that placed business with her state office, officials said Thursday.
Also Thursday, prosecutors in Harrisburg announced charges against Republican moneyman Richard W. Ireland, of Chester County, one of Hafer's biggest campaign contributors.
According to the indictment, Ireland gave "secret campaign contributions" to former Treasurer Rob McCord of more than half a million dollars.
McCord pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges last year.
