Ron Paul: More women should sacrifice career to homeschool kids

America needs more home-schoolers, ladies. Yeah, you probably have a day job and can’t afford to take the time off to properly educate your offspring at home. But that’s just an excuse, you wimp. Even a woman working two jobs and living at a homeless shelter could find time to teach her child. Well, according to a twist of reality espoused by former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) anyway.

“I want people to be able to home-school their children,” he said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to promote his book about the education titled “The School Revolution.” “Not everybody – this is designed to pick out the leaders who want to. And maybe 20 percent might be interested in doing this. But these would be leaders who would be talking about running for Congress and understand why the Federal Reserve is a problem.”

BBC anchor Katy Kay this morning asked Paul if his libertarian aim to have so many more children home-taught would hurt women, since they’re the ones typically expected to take on domestic roles. Plus, wouldn’t that exact a terrible blow on the workforce – to take out a fifth of its working women?

No, he replies, claiming he’s heard of someone who invalidates all other excuses.

[font color=green]A couple of sentences further in the article there is sentence (although it is not in quotation marks) stating, "Women only work because they have to – to survive, Paul adds. Not because they want to or have ambition or anything."

Don't look for some kind of consistent logic from this guy. There's none to be found. Only area he's arguably right about is foreign policy. His son is even more crazy. And naturally...he represents the hell on earth that is Texas. The shithole state that just keeps on giving. I wish it would stop.

I don't think he and I are defining libertarian in exactly the same way.

their partners made good wages. But most families can't afford to have a parent stay home.

And then there are children with learning disabilities. The average parent probably cannot handle the adjustments needed for a child to pass their state tests.

And there are also parents who realize that their children learn more about the world around them through a public school environment.

I would kick ass teaching science and math, but would suck at English and history. I know my limitations and would not force my child to have her education hindered due to my lack of knowledge.

Anyone can teach out of a book, but once children start asking deeper questions that really get to the heart of a subject, if that parent has never really studied it nor has the ability to discern facts from BS after researching the issue, what good is that?

I know public schools in Texas aren't the best and we are lucky that our daughter goes to one of the good ones, but I would still prefer that she's taught by various teachers who have spent years specializing in their respective subjects. And the social skills she has learned and the exposure to different cultures has been wonderful.

I know this is just my personal opinion, but I think Paul may have forgotten many benefits to non-homeschooling situations.
