Prosecutor on the defense: Travis County DA Rosemary Lehmberg goes on trial for her job

Almost eight months ago, Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg was caught driving drunk, beginning a public drama that has included unexpected twists and turns and political sideshows that have stretched from her office to the state Capitol.
On the morning after her arrest, Lehmberg, serving her second term, seemed almost surprised when a TV reporter asked her outside her home if she would resign. She vowed she wouldnt.
But beginning Monday, Lehmbergs future as the countys top felony prosecutor will fall into the hands of an out-of-county judge, who will hear evidence in a full-scale civil trial about whether she will remain in an office she overwhelmingly won in an election last year or, in effect, be fired.
The trial is expected to draw large numbers of spectators, from Lehmberg supporters and detractors to impartial observers who want to witness the novelty of a trial to remove an elected official from office under a rarely used Texas law.
