Related: About this forumAny Collin County residents got their new Voter Registration cards? Something's hinky.
I use my maiden name as my middle name. It's been that way on my driver's license and voter reg cards for years. Didn't have any problems in the last election even after that screwy law passed. Got our new cards today, and it not only has my Last, First and Maiden names, but the last name I had in my first marriage, which I haven't used in 12 years. Where did that pop up from?
Hubby has a problem, too. His mother remarried when he was 5 or 6 and they started using the new husband's last name for the kids. They didn't do it officially, so he went to court when he was 18 and had it legally changed. This was in the 80s. In Canada. We were together several years before I even heard what his original last name was. He never uses it, but by God it's on his brand new Collin County voter registration card. Last name, First name, Initial, Initial, Original Last Name. Where did THAT pop up from?
It's like they pulled up the history of all our AKAs and put them on our voter registration card. They don't match our driver's licenses, so I guess we need to change this before the next election.
Here's the real kicker--my voting record shows me as a Republican, since I've voted in Republican primaries ever since 2008. So unless they checked my record of political donations, there shouldn't be any reason for them to mess with my voting eligibility.
Any other Collin County DUers notice anything on their cards?

(42,610 posts)It occurred to me after I posted that this might be some odd effort on their part to help people who might have gotten dinged by the screwy voting law, so I went to the elections website to see if they had any sort of message about the new cards. Nope.
But I pulled up my record and my husband's and the electronic images (NOT a scanned image, but a digital approximation of what your card should look like) are exactly right. No original first name for him, no last name from first marriage for me. WHAT THE...??
If this happened to everyone in Collin County and the election clerks are adamant about drivers licenses matching the cards, this is going to be a royal frak up.

(1,696 posts)....it was all over Facebook a few weeks ago...I did NOT change my name when I got married, so it is not a problem for me.....
you should google search to make sure my info is correct, but as I recall the name and addr on the LEFT side of the card is what will be compared to your photo id...the name and addr on the right (the white side) is not SUPPOSED to be used to verify who you are....

(42,610 posts)The info in the white box is what does match our driver's licenses. The info in the orange box is what has the extra information.
At least my former married name was on previous driver's licenses and voter registration cards. I don't know where they resurrected my husband's original last name from. He has never had a driver's license, passport, social security card or voter registration with that name.
