In Nugent flap, city communication failed

When city staffers headed down the path toward hiring rocker Ted Nugent to headline a Longview Independence Day celebration, a set of events was put into motion that was not going to end well.

That some staffers could not see that is regrettable, but there is now no doubt they were well aware choosing Nugent would draw criticism. Email messages between city staffers include discussion about how to deflect criticism that might arise.

Unfortunately, none of those involved in the early planning considered that perhaps that alone was reason enough to not pick Nugent. That’s a shame.
