Rain-soaked cliff where burned luxury home once stood falls into Lake Whitney



A sheer cliff hanging ominously above the Dallas area's Lake Whitney for months has finally fallen into the water below.

The collapse happened between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon, during a rain storm, said Tom Hemrick, Hill County emergency management coordinator.

"It was in the middle of a major storm and nobody was on the lake," Hemrick said Monday, while touring the county to survey storm damage. "I think it's the best-case scenario."

If the cliff had fallen during good weather, it could have posed a danger to boaters and others below, he said.
