Prosper woman who embezzled millions from Plano ISD is sentenced to prison for fed program fraud
A Prosper woman was sentenced Wednesday to 30 months in federal prison for her role in a conspiracy to embezzle millions of dollars from Plano ISD, according to a release from U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.
Carol Ann LaRue, 68, had pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit federal program fraud. U.S. District Judge Richard Schell also ordered her to pay more than $1.2 million in restitution to Plano ISD.
According to prosecutors, LaRue owned and operated two companies - Fire Systems Specialists and Digital Security Solutions – that specialized in fire safety systems and security systems. Between May 2011 and December 2013, LaRue worked with former Plano ISD employee Kris Wilson Gentz to submit fraudulent invoices to the school district for work never done and products never purchased. Prosecutors say that when the district paid the invoice, LaRue and Gentz split the profits.
Gentz, who lost most of his share of the money gambling, was sentenced last month to 51 months in prison and ordered to pay more than $2.6 million in restitution.
