Related: About this forumAustin Music Hall to be demolished to make way for office tower
Gary Dinges AMERICAN-STATESMAN
A deal to purchase the Austin Music Hall, at 208 Nueces St. in downtown Austin, reportedly fell through, spawning a lawsuit.
The Austin Music Hall will close at years end to make way for a 28-story office tower.
Several events already scheduled at the venue, at 208 Nueces St., will go on as planned, before demolition crews begin work to clear the site, according to Austin-based Cielo Property Group, the company that has owned the building since late last year.
The new high-rise will have 349,000 square feet of space, Cielo and its development partner Tier REIT said. Construction will begin early next year and should be completed by late 2017.
Weve seen first-hand the extremely high demand for office space in downtown Austin and even with all the new construction there isnt much space available, Cielo founding principal Bobby Dillard said. This building will offer a premier location in what is quickly becoming the heart of downtown with amazing views and plenty of amenities onsite and within easy walking distance including the Whole Foods world headquarters, the new Trader Joes at Seaholm and dozens of restaurants and bars.

The building is less than 20 years old, but it seemed to always struggle financially.

(9,771 posts)1. Who needs music when you can have another high rise office tower?
They call this progress?

Most of the music scene has moved from downtown Austin over the years with places like Antone's, The Black Cat, and Liberty Lunch closing years ago. I believe that the biggest music place in downtown Austin is Stubb's Bar-B-Q which is an outside venue.
