Ken Paxton conflict-of-interest questions raised in new filing, received $100K in shares
State Attorney General Ken Paxton was paid shares in a Texas company worth $100,000 to provide information about sales opportunities in the government while he was a member of the Texas House, a document filed in Paxtons criminal case said.
The document, filed Wednesday by prosecutors in Paxtons securities fraud cases, said that former Servergy Inc. CEO William Mapp told Texas Rangers that the shares were for political advice and for information about business opportunities that could help the McKinney tech firm market its servers to government data centers.
The one-page filing raises questions about whether Paxton might have violated state ethics standards on conflicts of interest, particularly the Texas Government Codes prohibition on compensation that could impair independence of judgment in performing official duties.
The codes standards of conduct also say a state official shouldnt accept any benefit for exercising official powers or duties in favor of another.
