Southlake life coach accused of bilking U.S. out of $26 million

Southlake mom Karena Mondrianh considers herself a healer and a “life coach.”

As a self-professed firewalker, she has guided people across hot coals to help them overcome their fears. She’s offered hypnosis for $175 on Groupon. And she’s described herself as a practicing psychologist and psychotherapist, despite not having professional licenses in the fields.

“I love healing,” she told a newspaper several years ago. “But I want to heal in bigger numbers.”

But federal investigators say Mondrianh is a tax cheat.

The hairdresser turned tax preparer was accused in an IRS civil complaint of bilking the government out of an estimated $26 million in revenue over six years. That would make it one of the largest tax preparation fraud cases in the nation in recent years.

For those not familiar with Texas, Southlake is an affluent city northwest of the DFW airport.[/font]
