140-car train loaded with coal derails on South Side of San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — Union Pacific crews are working to clear the scene of a train derailment that sent multiple cars loaded with coal tumbling from their tracks on the South Side.

Union Pacific spokeswoman Calli Hite said four cars from the fully-loaded, 140-car train derailed near the 5600 block of South Presa Street around 12:25 a.m.

Authorities initially said there were 62 cars on the train, but later increased the number.

Hite said six cars left the tracks, four of which rolled onto their sides.
