Brenham police officer fired after investigation into use of excessive force

Following a July arrest that authorities said left a 36-year-old woman with a cut forehead, Brenham police officer Corp. Richard Bobbitt was terminated from his position Monday after an internal investigation determined he used excessive force in the incident.

According to authorities, Jammie Castillo was being pursued by police on July 14 after she reportedly stole a vehicle from the 2600 block of Schulte Boulevard in Brenham.

Police said Castillo fled officers, including Bobbitt, leading them on a chase that ended near the Harris and Waller County line after the vehicle ran across a spike strip placed by authorities on U.S. 290.

Castillo's arrest report notes that she was "placed in custody after resisting officers."
