Lawsuit accuses Edgewood ISD of negligence and inaction in sex assault case
The family of the 15-year-old girl involved in a sex scandal at Edgewood Independent School District on Monday filed a federal lawsuit against the district, its police department, Memorial High School and former Edgewood employees Marcus Revilla and Manuel Hernandez.
Revilla, a former science teacher at Memorial, was sentenced in September 2014 to 17 years in federal prison without parole for taking photos of himself having sex with the girl during the 2013-2014 school year. The victim was a student at Memorial and became pregnant with his child.
Hernandez, an Edgewood ISD police officer, was charged in April of 2014 of aggravated sexual assault, accused of having sex with the same girl around the same time. He is awaiting trial.
The victim is now 18 and Luis Vera, the lawyer who is representing her, said he is seeking an undetermined amount of money to help her support her son, so she doesnt have to kill herself working nights, so she can go to school and have a good life.
