Texas State wont report undocumented immigrants, its president says
SAN MARCOS — Texas State University President Denise Trauth, in response to the appearance of anti-immigration fliers posted around campus, said the university wouldn’t report undocumented immigrants to authorities.
Trauth made the statement in an email to faculty, staff and students on Wednesday. She said several fliers that had encouraged people to report undocumented immigrants to federal authorities were found and removed from different locations on campus.
“The university, following current law, does not and will not report undocumented immigrants to authorities,” Trauth wrote.
The president’s swift and direct response to the fliers comes after a recent outcry by some students who said she didn’t take a firm enough stance on a campus petition started last month that urged university leaders to establish a “sanctuary campus” to protect undocumented students.
