Bronte residents steamed over land deal

Tension in the City of Bronte is slowly unwinding, following allegations by residents of misconduct and wrongful use of taxpayer money by City Council members.

Angered over what they see as a lack of transparency, residents are demanding answers about how a questionable lease agreement between the city and Ronny Loyd, a resident of Blackwell, got started — and which council member initiated the deal.

On April 14, 2016, the Bronte City Council signed off on a deal that gave the lessee, Loyd, 18.369 acres of land at Oak Creek Reservoir —referred to in the agreement as Oak Creek Lake — for the price of $1 per year for 99 years.

The move has baffled and outraged some residents.

Council Member Martin Lee, who many residents clam is responsible for the deal, made the motion for the agreement, which was seconded by Council Member Paul Gohman.
