Frisco hospice owner accused of fraud and harming patients had ties to other health care companies

Novus Health Services wasn't the only company at which federal regulators found ties to a man they have accused of defrauding Medicare and ordering overdoses for patients.

A hearing in federal court in Dallas on Friday included testimony that Novus owner and CEO Bradley J. Harris continued working at hospice and home health care companies after regulators stopped Novus from receiving Medicare payments because he was suspected of organizing a $60 million fraud.

Harris, 35, of Frisco, had been in federal custody since his arrest Tuesday. He was indicted on 11 counts of health care fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance related to prescriptions such as morphine.

Harris' wife, Amy, and 14 other people associated with Novus and a related company, Optim Health Services, face similar charges in the indictment unsealed this week. Novus was one of the largest hospice providers in North Texas.
