DACA recipients detained during pro-immigrant rights sit-in released from Travis County Jail

AUSTIN -- 10:30 p.m. update: The four DACA recipients who were part of a group that was arrested for staging a sit-in in the middle of a street intersection near the state Capitol Wednesday morning have been released from Travis County Jail.

The four are unauthorized immigrants who applied for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which grants deportation protection and work permits to qualifying applicants. They were arrested along with 11 supporters during an immigrant rights protest Wednesday morning.

One of the protesters was released with the four DACA recipients. The rest of the group is expected to be released Thursday about 1 a.m.
