Note: This is local coverage of a story that received national attention. It also is of personal interest since I grew up 10 miles away from Three Rivers and that school district has a similar policy regarding corporal punishment of students.
THREE RIVERS It has been a week since those living and working here began noticing a billboard that has created quite a stir.
On the eastern shoulder of North Harborth Street (U.S. 281), on the edge of Kopplin Park, the message Our religion doesnt believe in hitting children screams out in white capital letters on black background. Im concerned about what kind of image that projects for our town, said Carolyn Brosig of the Three Rivers Inn and Suites, which sits on the opposite side of the street from the billboard.
Brosig and coworker Donna Horton first noticed the sign Oct. 25.
Its not good. I think its scary because of who paid for it, said Brosig, who feared that the advertisement could scare away potential customers.
