Texas A&M Shooting: 1 Officer, 1 Civilian Dead In College Station Shooting

Texas A&M reports that police took a gunman into custody 15 minutes after issuing a "Code Maroon" alert at 12:29 this afternoon. One officer was killed and one civilian, according to police.

An alert distributed electronically to students, faculty and staff warned people to stay away from the intersection of Welborn Road and George Bush Drive and part of Fidelity Drive in College Station, Texas, according to CNN. The message also told residents in the area, which is near the school's football stadium, to stay indoors.

Three people have died, including a Brazos County constable and a reported shooter, and several others have been injured in a shooting this afternoon in College Station, according to police and media reports.

Brazos County Precinct 1 Constable Brian Bachmann and a civilian were killed in the shooting, which occurred at about 12:15 p.m. on Fidelity Lane near the Texas A&M University campus, Assistant Police Chief Scott McCollum said in a press conference today.

The shooter, who has not been identified, was later reported dead by the Bryan/College Station CBS affiliate.

The deaths were confirmed at a 2:30 p.m. news conference by College Station Police Department Assistant Chief Scott McCollum.

Precinct 1 Constable Brian Bachmann, as well as another unidentified male civilian, were killed in the shooting just after noon in the 200 block of Fidelity.

In all, six people were injured or killed.

A College Station police officer was shot in the leg and two more officers received injuries that are not life threatening. Another civilian, a female, was injured and is undergoing surgery, McCollum said.

McCollum did not mention the shooter in his brief remarks and did not taken questions from reporters. The shooter also may be the unidentified dead man..

COLLEGE STATION, TX — UPDATE (4:15pm): The following people are being treated at a nearby hospital: 55 year old civilian woman who was shot, an officer who was shot in the calf, and two additional officers who have minor injuries.

Deputy Bryan Bachmann was killed while serving an eviction notice on the shooter. It is not clear at this time whether the shooter was the homeowner or if he was renting the property.

The shooter was in his mid-30s.

College Station Police say that it is diffult for the department to investigate the scenes, after the loss. However, there are multiple crime scenes, and the area is secured.

A Houston mom in College Station to help her Texas A&M student daughter move is among the victims in the shooting blocks from the university.

Barbara Holdsworth was hit in the shooting that left three dead, according to her friend — prominent Houstonian Margaret Reckling. Reckling has been posting updates on her friend's condition on her Facebook page with the latest: "A report from Barbara's daughter, Sarah: She is in ICU and has lung damage. The surgeons said 'she is not out of the woods, yet'."

"She is in surgery right now, please keep her and the other victims in your prayers," Reckling wrote of Barbara Holdsworth.

Sarah Holdsworth is a Texas A&M student. Reckling writes that Barbara was in College Station to help her daughter move from a house near the site of the shooting to another place.

A Texas man facing eviction opened fire on police officers and bystanders near the Texas A&M University campus Monday afternoon, killing two and wounding four before being shot to death by police, authorities said.

The dead included Brian Bachmann, a Brazos County constable serving an eviction notice, and Chris Northcliff, 51, of College Station.

Police identified the shooter as Thomas A. Caffall, 35, of College Station. Caffall's mother, Linda Weaver, reached by The Huffington Post, said her son was having "difficulties" with his mental health in recent years.

Perry Defends Status Quo in Wake of College Station Shooting

Today, two more innocent people have been tragically killed in a shooting in College Station. Reports indicate that the shooter used a semi-automatic weapon in his killing of Constable Brian Bachmann, who was delivering an eviction notice, and an unidentified citizen. Four others were injured and the gunman was shot and taken to custody by officers. He later died from injuries. Today's shooting joins the shootings in Aurora and Milwaukee as the third major shooting incident in less than a month.

In response to the horrific situation, Governor Rick Perry appeared on Fox News to express his continued objection to gun control:

"When it gets back to this issue of taking guns away from law-abiding citizens somehow that's gona make our country safer, i don't agree with that, I think most people in Texas certainly don't agree with that- and that's a state by state issue frankly that should be decided in the state's and not again a rush to Washington DC to centralize the decision making and them to decide what is in the best interest of the citizens of Florida or for Texas, that's for the people of these states to decide. And Texas I will suggest to you by and large a majority of them, a large majority of them believe that law abiding men and women should be able to have their weapons and the criminals are never going to listen to the law, they're always gonna have weapons, whatever source they want, whether they're legal or illegal. And I think it's wise for the people of the state of Texas to be able to defend themselves when there is a law breaker that comes into their midst with a weapon."
